John Johnston Fahlgren lived in Norman, next to Kenora. He heard about Sydney Lake in 1929 from Anton Vick who owned a Taxi service had the fishing licence for the lake. Trout was the talk, he couldn't believe that there were that many in the lake.
Grandpa liked to spend his free time fishing, using a 20ft cane ploe with the line the same length as the pole, it had a cork in the end of it to hold the hook. He Liked to fish off the shoreline, working 40ft of shore at a time.
Grandpa took a plane ride to Sydney to see the lake, he fell in love with Sydney Lake in 1933.
Grandpa saw the potential of the lake and dreamed of building a tourist camp in 1947 when he applied for a licence to build one.
The boat in the picture was built by him in 1957.
