Northern Ontario Fly-In Fishing Camp

Sydney Lake Lodge is a Fly-In Fishing Lodge north of Minaki, southwest of Red Lake Ontario Canada. We offer fly-in fishing trips for walleye, northern pike and lake trout.

The fishing camp is located on the South East corner of Woodland Caribou Park and on the northern fringe on Ontario's Trophy Waters.

I am hoping this blog will be a good way to talk about Sydney Lake and my life in Red Lake. Please feel free to post and to contact me with any questions.

Excess Gear and Aircraft

Some of our guests have packed to our Baggage Limit: 80 pounds per person
Recommendation:
35lbs of food - 7lbs of food / day, beer and pop is available at camp, pre order well in advance of your trip.
25lbs clothing
20lbs of fishing gear
AIRLINE companies charge for baggage weight, $15 for first bag and $25 for second bag, over 50lbs costs $50 & over 70lbs costs $100. We have weight limits and not a per bag fee.

Party of two with 400 lbs of gear for one week were expecting to board this aircraft. The biggest factor when flying is bulk and weight, over sized tubs and boxes, a maximum of 40lbs per bag, box, tub or cooler is recommended, large over-sized tubs & coolers take up a lot of room, float aircraft have limited space. Pack meat frozen in a smaller cooler, you don't need ice with it, the ice is extra weight.
Before you leave home, use your bathroom scale to weigh all your gear, including what you consider carry on items, they count in poundage.
Guess what, we couldn't fit them on the plane, 240 lbs over. What can they leave behind? Extra baggage can be arranged to be flown on the next available aircraft if there is space available for $1.00 per lb, if you can't wait or do without it then a upgrade charges will apply.
