Northern Ontario Fly-In Fishing Camp

Sydney Lake Lodge is a Fly-In Fishing Lodge north of Minaki, southwest of Red Lake Ontario Canada. We offer fly-in fishing trips for walleye, northern pike and lake trout.

The fishing camp is located on the South East corner of Woodland Caribou Park and on the northern fringe on Ontario's Trophy Waters.

I am hoping this blog will be a good way to talk about Sydney Lake and my life in Red Lake. Please feel free to post and to contact me with any questions.

Fuel Haul Second Stage

NOTE

Novices - should only start pulling 2 barrels on the sleigh until they get the feel of both the skidoo & sleigh working together or against each other. Try to steer as straight as possible, if you try to over compensate you could create a serious problem very quickly.

Each drum with Gas weighs 400lbs and the drum with Deisel weighs 450lbs, loading them takes a special technique for tiping the drum over on to the sleigh and getting it parallel with the sides of the sleigh, two drums are held in place with a ratchet load binder and four drums to the load on agerage. With good pulling conditions, the know how to run the skidoo over the trail and hills, you can pull 6 drums to camp. The heavy sleigh weighs 175lbs and 6 barrels of deisel weighs 2700lbs for a total of 2875lbs behind your Skidoo or ATV, you have to know your speed and the rise of the hill on the trail that you have to climb, the right speed for each section, has to be acquired. The correct and constant speed is the biggest factor when freighting.

The drums are loaded on to the 10' long x 34" wide sleighs, an average trip takes 1 hr, the drums are unloaded close to the fuel storage tanks, fuel is then pumped into the large storage tanks, empty drums are piled up after the fuel is pumped out of them. The drums are then hauled back to the landing for more fuel or racked on the loading dock for storage.
