Fuel hauls have there hidden dangers, the shaft that holds the ski had a failure at the stearing arm atachments , the sleigh went in to a flip flop breaking a ratchet tie down and the two barrels were left 50ft behind the sleigh. I had no injuries, held on and tried to control the sleigh. If you try to bail off you could be run over by the sleigh.
When hauling your barrels, always check to make sure your ratchet tie downs are tight and that your free ends are secure.
The left picture shows the skidoo fliped on is side with me holding on, note the ratchet for the loan binder located to the upper right of the sleigh.
The center picutre shows the ski with the broken shaft pointing down to the snow, note that the hood and wind sheild are broke.
The right picture shows the loose tiedown strap that has to be secured.
Listening to a MP3 player is entertaining but distracts you from the preformance of the skidoo, the change in rpm, the sway of the sleigh, as boring as it may seem, pay total attention to the skidoo.
The skidoo must be fueled and the oiler filled, have spare drive belts and an extra pair of warm mitts. A 1/2" x 100ft long rope is handy for pulling out the sleigh when you get is stuck in slush. The length of rope in most cases will get your sleigh back on hard the packed trail or get some one else out of the slush.
